Valerie Burgess is a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God. Her home church is Muldoon Community Assembly of God (MCA), 7041 DeBarr Rd., Anchorage, AK. (www.mcaonline.org)
Education
Valerie has an undergraduate degree in Communications and a minor in Bible from Evangel University, Springfield, MO. She completed a Master of Art in Teaching from Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage, AK.
Ministry Experience
As director of local outreach or the We Care Ministries of MCA, Valerie monthly directs fifteen Sunday and weekday services in long term care facilities and a women’s correctional facility. She administrates the Grief Share and Divorce Care programs of her church. She oversees two Bible studies that meet weekly. Her ministry reaches a local attendance averaging approximately 600-700 people monthly. These ministries include working with other area programs, such as facility chaplains, Alaska Correctional Ministries, transitional living centers, and other local non-profits.
Valerie also for five years co-coordinated the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs for MCA.
Teaching Experience
As a highly-qualified teacher in areas of high school language arts and social studies and general elementary education, Valerie works as part-time public school teacher for the Anchorage School District (ASD). Valerie helps parents who desire to homeschool their children. She advises them as they set up their student’s school curriculum and their ASD supplied budget. This puts her in contact with a wide variety of professionals and families.
Valerie has also worked for two private schools. She taught high school courses at Muldoon Christian School, Anchorage, AK and elementary classes at Calvary Christian School, Elkhart, IN.
Writing Experience
Valerie has worked in the publishing arena for nearly 25 years. She has written for a wide variety of Assemblies of God publications, including the following: Today’s Pentecostal Evangel, Pentecostal Evangel, Advance, Take Five, God’s Word for Today, and Youth Alive. She has also written curriculum materials for the Assemblies of God Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Church School Literature departments. She freelanced for the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charismalife curriculum. She worked full time as an Editorial Assistant for the Gospel Publishing House.
For the Alaska Rural Newspapers (now doing business as Alaska Newspapers, Inc.), she was a full time design editor and writer. This company publishes six weekly community newspapers throughout Alaska.
Valerie has a large e-mail database that reaches friends across the United States. As an Assemblies of God minister, she is part of a worldwide community of ministers and pastors.
